Hey Sheila.. great questions. There are some great instructions that come with each stencil. They include tips on peeling as well. Here's are some short easy peeling instructions.
1. Attach your stencil to your pumpkin and poke around the grey areas like you would if you were carving.
2. When you remove the stencil, go around all the areas once more with an X-acto knife. This way when you go to peel the skin off the pumpkin, it will have an end point pre-cut.
3. I like to use a small woodworking chisel to peel. Just like carving a piece of wood only easier.
4. GO SLOWLY... don't rush the peeling. You don't want to slide out and gouge the pumpkin.

That should do the trick. Have Fun

Hey Tori...
Great question. It's definitely fine work, but in order to actually make it look like the actors, the details have to be pretty fine.

I would suggest "Peeling" the skin first. Scrape out the inside of the pumpkin really thin so the light will shine through. You may be happy with how that looks as is. But with the skin peeled and the pumpkin thinner, it will be much easier to get a nice small pumpkin saw through the flesh.

Thanks for the great question and have fun carving.

Here's a great example of the Twilight stencil carved by our new friend Jeannette. It's posted on our Gallery. Check it out

You can also see it on our Facebook Fan page.
